Flash poetry: Cave life

I went silent,
and by the time I found my voice
you were gone –
swallowed in a cave devoid of sound.
I know not how to find the wall that holds the switch
to turn those notes back on.
So, I sit in the muted cavern and listen for
murmurs that never come,
dropping breadcrumbs
that others pick up in the dark of night
to feed their hungry hearts.
Milestones echo on the walls.
